about

Live solo version of The Leaves recorded at Raj’s House, November 2021

lyrics

It was a cold night on the mountain
On the Heaven side of town
The air was thick from the smoke pit
We cook our dinner underground
She said, Johnny I need something here to change
He said, Well today was sunny, tomorrow looks like rain

Johnny you’re my guy
But I don’t want to sit here and wonder why
You said, Let’s wait til autumn
But Johnny, I can hear the leaves falling now

A hawk flew towards the mountain
As the river began to swell
There was a crack as loud as thunder
A red oak bowed and fell

She said, Johnny I need something to believe
He said, Well baby the boys just pulled up
I love you but gotta leave

Johnny you’re my guy
But I don’t want to sit here and wait to die
You said let’s wait til autumn
But Johnny, I can hear the leaves falling now

We’re chasing what keeps us alive
We’re racing the dreams in our eyes

The frost held hard on the front steps
She dropped her bag, almost fell
A hot brick riding shotgun
Kept it from cold as hell

She said Johnny I really tried to believe
But life is short..

Johnny you’re my guy
But it’s time for this bird to fly

You said let’s wait til autumn
But Johnny I can hear the leaves fallin’ now
Johnny, the leaves are falling now..

It was a cold night on the mountain
On the Heaven side of town..
